Earlier this summer, the PGHMQG and the Central Area (Pennsylvania) Modern Quilt Guild (CAMQG) embarked on a mini swap themed "Traditional Made Modern". Each participant provided a list of their favorite traditional patterns, favorite colors and favorite fabric designers. A list of their dislikes was also provided. My partner reported that she liked brights, blacks and whites and the flying geese pattern. This was the mini that I made for her. I followed her lead with these bright fabric selections, and made the geese wonky and multicolored to modernize them. This mini measures 12'' x 12''.
The front panel of this pouch was my first pass at the mini. It measures approximately 8'' x 8'' and the geese just weren't as wonky as I wanted them to be. After I made this, I re-read the instructions and realized that 12'' x 12'' was the minimum size the quilt should be. Two big reasons to turn this into something else and start over!
A black and white quilted back, a lining and a zipper were added to the too small mini and a nice little pouch was born!
I added the pouch and two of my patterns to the properly sized mini and shipped it off to my partner. In response, I received the nicest of thank you notes, which I truly appreciated, ans made me feel like my efforts were worth while.
I just ran across your photo on Flickr, and I really do love this mini that you made! So fun!
