I fell in love with this quilt design when I first saw it in the book "Applique Outside the Lines with Piece O'Cake Designs: No Rules-No Ruler". I needed a little something to brighten up our great room and this fit the bill perfectly. I am happy with it.
I came across a larger version of this design made by Nifty Quilts, a much more ambitious size and well worth the effort, I'm sure.
Earlier in my quilting life, I did a good bit of applique but was consumed with perfection. This resulted in eventual burnout and a mound of unfinished work that no longer suits my taste. Having been reintroduced to applique but with a much more casual approach, my appreciation for the technique has been reignited; I was inspired to hand sew once again.
Each leaf is free formed from one of a kind fabrics; no need to be concerned here about creating perfect, identical multiples. It was good to relax.
Nor is there a need for concern about making perfect curves and perfect points. This is good old fashioned casual applique.
